Legal Ethics and the Christian Lawyer
Two factors that determine what people do are the law and their moral values. The law places some limits on what people can do, but if the law was the only limit that people placed on their activities, this world we inhabit would not be a very pleasant one. For mere obedience to the law does not necessarily reflect the goodness of the person. The practice of law is not different in this respect from other areas of life. There are laws and rules of professional conduct that limit what a lawyer and client can do, but within the limits of the law is a substantial area in which the lawyer and client have discretion. Generally, this is the area in which people’s moral values, which are often derived from a persons religious beliefs, come into play.
This seminar will consider the influence of law, morality, and religious faith on what lawyers can and should do. It will provide an opportunity for the participants to reflect on the type of practice that theywould like to have. Please see the schedule below.
The registration fee for the seminar is Rs 200/- and will include the costs for one simple lunch meal, two teas and the seminar material.
